Telegraph
The Invention
The telegraph is a long-distance communication system where messages are carried by electrical signals on wires. The telegraph works by using a switch that turns on and off the electricity in an electric current. The operator taps on the switch to send pulses through the wires and they use these pulses to form out letters and words. Using long and short pulses, they use the language of Morse code to send letters and words. The different pulses represent different letters and words which the operator at the other end receive these pulses and put them together to form the message.

The picture shown above is a original telegraph that samuel uses. In 1844, when Samuel built his first telegraph he desmostrated how his invention work to congress.Samuel transmitted the famous message, "What hath God wrought" from Washington to Baltimore over a wire. His message was recieved by a telegraph reciever just like the picture below that he used in 1844. The picture on the left shows morse code and how each certain amount of lines and dot corresponds to a letter.
