Meet The Inventor
Samuel F.B. Morse
Samuel F.B. Morse was born on April 27,1791 in Charlestown, Mass. He is the son of a distinguished geographer and Congregational clergyman, Jedidiah Morse. A student of Yale College, he was interested in paintings and the subject of of electricity​. Samuel graduated in 1810 and then went to England to study painting which made him a well-known portrait artist. Then Samuel moved to New York in 1825 where there, he came the founder and the first president of the National Academy of Design. While he was in New York, he tried to run for the New York Mayor office twice but he lost in both of his campaigns.
